Composer, and double Grammy Award-winning sound engineer, Simon Goff’s work seeks to find inner space between genres, exploring how the violin can be manipulated and processed to create a unique sound that defies traditional definitions.
Simon is the composer of the 2020 documentary On a Clear Day You Can See the Revolution From Here, the imaginative 3D-animated short Sealand, and the “bullet-crossed lovers” sniper romance Warmuffin. He also recently scored the BBC / Paramount + drama series, The Gold, starring Jack Lowden, Hugh Bonneville, Sean Harris and Dominic Cooper, as well as the independent Czech feature Úsvit, which is due for release in late 2023.
He has worked with some of the world’s most acclaimed musicians as a collaborator and a sound engineer including Academy Award-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir on Joker and Chernobyl – both of which earned him Grammy Awards, as well as Jóhann Jóhansson and Apparat among many others.
His 2021 debut solo album ‘Vale’ is a superb fusion of Simon’s classical background with fearless electronic experimentation layered with grounded melodies relating to both his personal and a collective unconscious pining for childhood memories against contemporary realities. He also collaborated with Katie Melua as a co-writer and producer on their 2022 album ‘Ariel Objects’ released through Modern Recordings.
From his appreciation of music process, audio engineering, and technology Simon conjures dynamic sonic compositions where acoustic and electronic sounds meet. His multimedia scores and performances merge these worlds harmoniously and shift effortlessly between intimate fragility to expansive cinematic soundscapes.
