Accomplished London-based composer Joel Cadbury’s work spans film, documentaries, dance, and stage. No matter if his music is experienced on the big
screen or on stage and beyond, his signature electronic style always fascinates and mesmerises.
For decades, Joel has been the main songwriter and frontman for the rock band sOuth, whose debut album ‘From Here On In’ was released on James Lavelle’s seminal label Mo’ Wax. He is also a part of the influential musical group UNKLE as a guitarist and co-writer, and was a featured artist on their albums ‘Never, Never Land’, ‘End Titles’ and ‘Where Did the Night Fall?’ To this day, both groups are lauded for their cutting edge sound and music production – vanguard qualities Joel employs in his scoring as a composer.
His scores for feature films include The Killer Inside Me, based on Jim Thompson’s 1950’s American noir novel, and the Russell Brand economic disparity documentary The Emperor’s New Clothes, both directed by Michael Winterbottom, as well as the armed robbery romantic thriller Comes a Bright Day, and the iconic UK crime thriller Sexy Beast, directed by Jonathan Glazer. Joel recently provided additional music for the HBO limited documentary series The Way Down, as well as scoring the NBC Universal / BBC comedy drama series Dodger, which explores to origins of the beloved character The Artful Dodger.
As a key collaborator of critically acclaimed British choreographer Wayne McGregor, Joel has composed music for dance and ballet performances such as Borderlands, which was performed for the San Francisco Ballet for their 2013 opening gala, Winged Bull in an Elephant Cage, and the soulful electronica score for the fantasy adaptation UniVerse: A Dark Crystal Odyssey, based on Jim Henson’s iconic 1982 film.
